Simon's memoir reveals her remarkable life, beginning with her storied childhood as the third daughter of Richard L. Simon, the co-founder of publishing giant Simon & Schuster, her musical debut as half of The Simon Sisters performing folk songs with her sister Lucy in Greenwich Village, to a meteoric solo career that would result in 13 top-40 hits, including the #1 song "You're So Vain." She was the first artist in history to win a Grammy Award, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award, for a song composed, written, and performed entirely by a single artist: "Let the River Run" from the movie Working Girl. The memoir recalls a childhood enriched by music and culture, but also one shrouded in secrets that would eventually tear her family apart. Simon captures moments of creative inspiration, the sparks of songs, and the stories behind writing "Anticipation" and "We Have No Secrets" among many others. Romantic entanglements with some of the most famous men of the day fueled her confessional lyrics, as well as the unraveling of her storybook marriage to James Taylor.… (plus d'informations)

This was a wild ride. Intimate childhood tales followed by lots of 1970s name dropping. I was surprised, though, that she published this at age 72 but the story ends in her late thirties. Surely something happened after divorce from James Taylor?

This review is about the Audible edition. After listening to almost 500 audio books and this is the first one I've ever quit. The reason is the playing music over the narration making it almost impossible to hear the words being spoken. The music would come and go at random times. Just when you start to think perhaps there will be no more music it comes back. Carly is a musician and I like her music. If they were to include music perhaps a short piece between each chapter. ( )

Not a bookclub book. Related to several stories in the book. Lifetime of learning about ourselves. ( )

A must read for any lover of Carly Simon and the music of the 70's. As a native of Southern California, I was delightfully surprised to recognize so many landmarks. However, so much of what was going on in the music business was fascinating to me. If you love Classic Rock, you have to read this book! ( )

I guess I'm not a big enough Carly Simon fan for this one. Had to bail out on the audio during the third chapter, when Simon's very peculiar description of a disturbing childhood incident made my skin crawl beyond toleration. Checked out the hardcover and flipped through the pictures and a few other passages as well, but found more of the same: TMI, delivered in a troubled and troubling way. Still like her music, but don't need to know this much about her life.
