In pictures and simple text the book presents unexpected opposites, like a big zebra sweeping with a little broom, or a big lion riding in a tiny wagon.

This book compared sizes in a really funny way starting with the big bear and the small chair. I think this is a fun book for the classroom because it is a rhyming book that compares and exaggerated size of items to each other. This would be good for a younger classroom, perhaps early education because it is an introduction to what proportions are. ( )

Lovely artwork and an opportunity to create mini stories ourselves. I wish there had been a thread of a story (as in [b: Inside Outside|20562488|Inside/Outside|Jenny Hayworth|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1389922972s/20562488.jpg|39330213]) or repetition (as in [b: Orange Pear Apple Bear|658592|Orange Pear Apple Bear|Emily Gravett|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1349128435s/658592.jpg|872801] by another author). Huh?  This follows the trend I've seen in many picture-books lately: the fewer the words, the more the critics like the book.  Especially if the format is odd, as in this very tall & narrow book.  Oh go watch a video if you don't want a real story.  Imo. ( )

The concept of small vs. big is artfully displayed in this book by using opposite objects and animals to convey size. Pictures include big objects with little ones within the same picture to show perspective and how big and small go together.

BIG BEAR, LITTLE CHAIR is a gorgeous little book from Lizi Boyd.

Done in black, white, gray tones and an orangey-red the artwork pops and the tall thin book shape immediately lets readers know that here is something different.

As you might guess from the title the book is about contrasts: BIG things versus little things. There's a Big Zebra, for example, with a little broom. There's also a Big Ladder, a small turtle, and a tiny book.

Which brings us to what there is to teach and learn. There are lots of things to point and name. Everything from a cocoon to an umbrella. There are animals such as the bear, also a zebra, butterfly, bird, owl, and salamander, to name a few.

I REALLY like that we have creatures such as salamander, seal and penguin as they aren't your standard cat/dog/bird. I also like that in the second part of the book that Lizi takes the comparisons one step further, showing not only Big and Little, but Big, Little and even smaller, Tiny.

~
BIG BEAR, LITTLE CHAIR would make a perfect gift for new or newer parents. It's pretty, even frameable artwork is appealing and it's nice that the content has many teachable moments.

It's this edu-tainment quality that would make this book a good choice for book baskets at school or home.
