Libby Conners was enjoying her job at Pearl Harbor, teaching pilots how to fly small planes. Along came Dan Lukens, a pilot who was making a name for himself with his exploits in the sky, and the sparks fly and the two promise each other that their love will endure and survive during the war, even when Dan is called up to the Philippines. Pear Harbor is attacked and the war begins. The rest of the story shows how these two people endured and served during the war. It takes you through the time when women were called upon to serve by transporting planes during the war and what they faced. But even more, it takes you through the horror of war as Dan is captured and endures brutal times under the Japanese rule over him. So much tragedy, but so much strength and endurance on the part of the men who were captured. A story of "stamina and a faith that will endure the nightmare of war". A story that stays with me long after I closed the pages. ( )
