To live through the zombie apocalypse they have to survive each other first. College freshman Parker Osborne is having the worst day ever. He humiliated himself trying to pick up a cute guy, he hasn't made any friends at school, and his stupidly hot jerk of a TA gave him a crappy grade on his paper. He's going to drop Adam Hawkins's film class and start fresh tomorrow after he's had a good sulk. But Parker's about to find out what a bad day really looks like-if he can survive the night. A virus is unleashed, transforming infected people into zombie-like killers. After these quick and deadly creepers swarm campus, Parker only escapes thanks to Adam swooping him onto the back of his trusty motorcycle. Now they're on the run-and stuck with each other. When they're not bickering, they're fighting off the infected in a bloody battle for survival. Their only hope is to head east to Parker's family, but orphaned Adam has a secret he's not sure Parker will accept: he's a werewolf. Can they trust each other enough to find some light in these dark days? Contains mature themes.… (plus d'informations)

Re-read of the audiobook. Just getting ready for when the 3rd book comes out. ( )

A lot of my friends gave this book 5 stars, so I guess I’ll be the odd one out, because for me this deserved no more no less than 3.5 stars.

This was my second book by Keira Andrews, and probably not the last one, because despite my rating, I like her writing. I do! ( )

I don't like zombie stories, and I like zombie apocalypse even less. I don't like horror, period.
So it took me a while to get through this book. I can't say I really enjoyed it, but the writing was good and I loved the MCs. I'm probably going to read the sequel, though I expect to feel the same mix of dread and curiosity while reading it. ( )

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Holy Moly this was awesome! I am not typically a fan of anything scary or horror. (I just had to create a zombies bookshelf because I have never had any inclination or gotten the nerve to read a zombie book before.) Keira Andrews made me consider it this time. I have loved her writing style and have enjoyed reading her in the past, so I figured I should give it a try. I am so glad I did. Parker and Adam were wonderful to read about. I laughed quite a bit, I teared up, I got grossed out, and I loved every word.

Parker was an 18-year-old college freshman who is struggling with his first bad grade (C-) of practically his entire life. Adam is the 23-year-old teaching assistant who gave him the grade. Parker is so mad at Adam for giving him the grade and for being so calm and gorgeous to boot. Later that day, after Parker struggles with meeting people and missing home, all hell breaks loose in the form of zombie like creatures taking over the world.

Adam happens to go by Parker and he sweeps him off on the back of the motorcycle to escape. They go on a big adventure as they travel cross country to try to find Parker's family in the hopes that they are alive and safe. While there was tension in the beginning because of the grade and Parker not wanting to like Adam, the two guys find that they work well together. Parker is funny and Adam is sweet. Although they are in an apocalypse setting, it never feels like their relationship is forced and unreal. The relationship progressed at a realistic pace (frustration-->forced camaraderie-->comfort-->friendship-->romantic feelings-->love). If they had the opportunity to get to know each other in different circumstances, I feel like they would still fall in love.

Despite the scary, gross, horror subject of the book, the relationship and romance between the characters rose above and took a front seat to the story. My biggest problem with this book is that I want more of an ending. I don't question whether or not it ends in an HEA (the guys are very solid and I can see them lasting as long as they live). I just want to know how long that is and find out if there is any resolution to the problem. I am hoping a sequel does get developed. I would read it in a heartbeat.

3.5 star rounding up to 4. Why up? Because... Chatham, Art's Dune Tours (go if you get a chance!!!), P-town, Fisherman's wharf, "They Also Faced the Sea" portraits.

***

There were several things that bugged me through the book, although to my surprise it wasn't the zombies.

First, the fact that no one attempted evacuation during the first stages of zombie apocalypse. Or maybe they did, but we don't know :(

Then, the werewolf situation. I am sure, it's all me being used to "conventional" weres, but that's the species I expected and didn't get. So - bummer. A few hints beforehand would be nice, just to know what we are dealing with here.

The "bad horror movie" move. That's when people know they shouldn't do things, but they do them anyway. Like turning electricity on. Full blast. For the zombies to find them.

Adam is a natural lie detector, yet he didn't believe when Parker said he wasn't the one who got him in trouble with the dean.

Things like that, they pile up.

*

In all fairness, zombie apocalypse is not my favorite read, so part of 3.5 stars is me being uncomfortable with the read... maybe? ;)

But... but then there was Cape. And Cape trumps all ♥♥♥ :D ( )

Many thanks to Amy, Anne-Marie, Becky, Jules, and Rachel for their critiques and friendship. And to awesome engineers and experts online for providing dissertations on what would happen to our power supplies and other technology in the event of a zombie apocalypse. If it ever happens, I will miss you, Internet!
