This is basically a reunion story, with enough angst, drama, and sarcasm to keep me in suspense about the outcome. The main characters are both as flawed as they come, and if you’re looking for a traditional romance, this is not it. Instead, Scotty Cade presents a cast of characters who would be at home in any soap opera, and gives Lee and Harry a second chance at love. And boy, do they need it! Both have made - and are still making - some stupid mistakes. The humorous tone makes it funny, and while most of the story is told by Lee, Harry does have the occasional opportunity to add his perspective.
Lee is a player. He is single and happy about it, taking opportunities to hook up with attractive men whenever he can find them. But there is one who got away, and Lee doesn’t realize how deeply he is still in love with him until he runs into Harry again. Not that this stops Lee from having yet another tryst, but it does bring back memories of a time when he thought monogamy was a good idea. Meeting up with him now, in a mini-college reunion with his closest friends, brings back all kinds of memory. Lee is still too hurt to be honest with himself at first – but the truth will come out, painful step by painful step.
The writing style and Lee's snarky remarks really pulled me in. The secondary characters are also great, and even though there are many, they are individuals and memorable enough not to be confusing. Some of them are important catalysts for Lee and Harry to get back together again, and some have played key roles in the past. All of them are very supportive, and made this book come alive.
If you like realistic stories about flawed people, if you want a “reunion with obstacles”, and if you’re looking for a read that is funny to the point of being sarcastic, and a love story that is not a romance, yet very hot, then you might like this novella.
