This is fun enough and I like that it doesn't really make clear if Olivia is a magic girl or if it's just that every kid gets wishes on their birthday, but it also takes its sweet time getting anywhere sometimes and also also you can't blame Robert Munsch for this but Emmett only wants to look at the page with the red truck, for minutes at a time, SIGH. ( )

This would be a great book to use to show problem and solution. Showing how Olivia got rid of the snow.

It was Olivia's birthday, so her mother and father baked her a birthday cake covered in frosting and candles. They told her to make a wish and blow the candles out. Olivia did just that, and her wishes came true. She wanted it to snow in the summertime. But it snowed a little too much for everyone's liking. In order for the snow to stop, more birthday cakes had to be made so Olivia could make more wishes and blow the candles out

I liked this book because of the language in the book. The book has repetitive words that are used in threes depending on what the main character, Olivia, wishes for. An example of this is, “I wished for SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW”. The repetitive pattern makes the text memorable to a reader. The book also includes text for the reader to go through the motions of blowing out candles by saying “Ahhhhhhhhhh” and “Whhhhhhhhhhhhw”. I think this provides an interactive piece for the reader to participate in the story. I think the main idea of this book is to teach readers to be careful what they wish for. ( )
