arthur has the chick pox. he gets presents, his friends come and give him his homework. DW gets jealous that arthur is all the attention. Eventually arthur gets better and all is back to normal.

Arthur’s Chicken Pox is a story about D.W. and Arthur, who are siblings, going to the circus with their family, but Arthur gets the chicken pox, so D.W. decides it is a good time to taunt him and make him feel like he won’t get better by the time the circus comes. To find out that Arthur is healthy the morning of the circus, and then everybody laughs at D.W. Although she doesn’t understand why, and then the family tells her that she needs to stay home because she got the chicken pox. The illustrations are vivid and happy, and do a great job of telling the story for children who may have troubles understanding what the chicken pox are. This story gives off the sense to siblings that it isn’t okay to be mean to each other, because eventually it could happen to them in the worst time possible. One lesson that can be brought up in a classroom is about “what goes around comes around”, and students can share a story if it has happened to them before. ( )

48 months - Thought it would be good to read some of the books that are part of the Arthur's Library Game which O enjoys playing. An OK story. ( )

I enjoyed reading this book for a few different reasons. The illustrations in this story are very detailed. These detailed illustrations added humor and little features which are not found from reading the text alone. In addition, I liked that this book had a plot that was easy for children to relate to. Many children get jealous when their sibling receives special attention. This happened in the story when Grandma Thora was giving Arthur extra attention and special care because was sick with the chicken pox. This made Arthur’s sister, D.W., jealous and in response she pretended to have the chicken pox so she could get more attention. The overall message of the story is to support others when they are in need. When Arthur had the chicken pox his grandmother took care of him and helped him to get better. Since she helped Arthur to get better in time for the circus, they both got to go together. ( )

Arthur has the chicken pox and everyone around him is taking care of him. He gets the special treatment from his Grandma. Arthur's sister, D.W., gets jealous of Arthur's attention and tries to fake the chicken pox to get special treatment too. When D.W. gets caught she tries to rub it in to Arthur that she gets to go to the circus and he doesn't. But when it came to going to the circus everyone was ready including Arthur but D.W. is stuck with the chicken pox. This is a fantasy book, only because the characters are animals. ( )
