How bourbon came to be, and why it's experiencing such a revival today. Unraveling the many myths and misconceptions surrounding America's most iconic spirit, Bourbon Empire traces a history that spans frontier rebellion, Gilded Age corruption, and the magic of Madison Avenue. Whiskey has profoundly influenced America's political, economic, and cultural destiny, just as those same factors have inspired the evolution and unique flavor of the whiskey itself. Taking listeners behind the curtain of an enchanting, and sometimes exasperating, industry, the work of writer Reid Mitenbuler crackles with attitude and commentary about taste, choice, and history. Few products better embody the United States, or American business, than bourbon. A tale of innovation, success, downfall, and resurrection, Bourbon Empire is an exploration of the spirit in all its unique forms, creating an indelible portrait of both bourbon and the people who make it.… (plus d'informations)

Quick read, fun and informative. I world call it informal history. The author is an self-admitted "Whiskey geek" and along with the history he shares his experiences tasting bourbons and his thoughts on every aspect of the process from the grain picked, distillation types, warehousing, storage and retail bottles. He ends with a few chapters on whskey's future. If you drink bourbon this book is a great pick. Howeve, I don't drink bourbon but I enjoyed the book very much. ( )

This book is so cleverly done. It is not only a history book about whiskey, it is a book of whiskey's contribution to American history. What a story, and we Americans LOVE a good story, especially when history (fables, myths, legends, etc.) becomes the selling point of the spirit. ( )

Readable account of the history, development and business processes of America's native whiskey. Starting from the Jamestown colony, through the colonial period, Civil War nad Gilded Age, the book shows the behind the scenes history of the whiskey and how it ended up in so many Americans' drinking cabinets and bars.
