The six stories in this collection are true classics – widely admired works that have been reprinted in many a collection. The audio performances of them are stunning. Particular standouts are Raymond Carver’s “Cathedral”, a work that is immensely enhanced by James Naughton’s performance (as I’ve found by comparing it to reading the story in book form). Similarly, Maria Tucci’s stage performance of Edith Wharton’s “Roman Fever” is a masterpiece, with a stunning ending that makes the mind reel in astonished delight. And then there’s Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”, work that chills the spine in its power and meaning.
One sentence summaries of each of the stories are given in my "Comments" section for this listing.
