The Wilson Home Trust is a charitable trust, based on Auckland's North Shore, which provides a range of services for children with a disability. It was establshed in 1937 when Mr and Mrs W.R. Wilson gifted their family home and 13 acres of magificent coastal gardens at Takapuna for the express benefit of children with disabilties. Polio was a major problem in New Zealand ( until the Salk vaccine was introduced in the 1960s ) and each epidemic left hundreds of people, many of them young, with permanent disabilities. The care of such children, and others with major disabilities, resulted in the Wison's generous gift. Today, rather than duplicate services already offered by Government funded agencies, the Wilson Home Trust adopts a collaborative and facilitative approach with Health, Education and Community organisations that provide services directly to children. Illustrated with numerous photographs, this well produced book chronicles the changes in methods of treatment of disabilities over the years as knowledge has increased and attitudes have altered. It also includes the reminisces of former patients and staff. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
