North Pole City is the setting for this enchanting series of stories about a world where the North Pole is run like a modern company, the Rein Dear are a group of nine elite pilots in charge of the annual Big Flight, and toy soldiers and sugarplum fairies abound. Mayor Kringle (the spirit of Christmas) is in charge, and the Frost family (spirits of winter of various talents) provides a hint of royalty and mystery. I love coming back to this imaginative place every year, and this year was no exception. The story's focus is on Vixen, one of the Rein Dear and Rudy's best friend, and Vale, one of Jack Frost's cousins. Vixen is an elf with a reputation. He has appeared in previous volumes, and I never really liked him then, but that was because, on the surface, he does not try to be nice. That is not what his life is about, or so he thinks, and so, finding out more about who he really is was fascinating. As the secrets of his past and his resulting motivations unfolded, I began to understand and like him more and more. He still does some pretty stupid things, but we all make mistakes, and at least he learns. Vale is one of a set of twins, and definitely the quiet, even somewhat shy of the two. As Jack Frost's cousin he is a powerful winter spirit, and he is also determined to give Vixen the benefit of the doubt and to find out what really makes him tick. Vale's well-hidden attraction comes to the surface once they start dating, and I loved how he showed Vixen a side to courting the fun-hungry elf did not expect. What follows is not just a sweet romance with some surprises for Vixen as well as Vale, but also the solution to some of the mystery around the Frost King himself. If you like the world of North Pole City, this book is a must read. If you're intrigued by an interesting mix of legends and ideas about Christmas and the creatures dealing with different aspects of it, if you want to find out more about two men who find out the other isn’t quite whom they expected him to be, and if you're looking for a read that is as sweet and romantic as it is funny and suspenseful, then you will probably like this novella. Rein Dear is a prestigious title, accompanied by admiration, devotion, and celebrity status, all of which one saucy Vixen thrives on. Alas, Vixen's only concerned with having fun, unlike his stuffy and sensible best friend, Rudy Rein Dear, who Vixen has always been jealous of. Aside from being chosen by Mayor Kringle to be captain of the Rein Dear Squadron, Rudy's managed to snag himself a prince, even if that prince is the dangerous and imposing Jack Frost. All's not lost for Vixen though. He discovers Jack's cousin Vale has a soft spot for him. Vale Frost might not be a dashing prince, but he's the next best thing: a decorated lieutenant for the Toy Soldier Army, and a member of the Frost monarchy. Determined to get what Vixen feels he deserves, he sets off on a mission to ensnare the kind-hearted lieutenant. But Vixen's selfish ways are sure to lead to disaster, and it'll take more than a little courage to set things right. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
