Sixteen-year-old Isra Kalb is trying to fend for herself and her sister, Zafirah, after the murder of their father and the madness of their mother. Isra only has an amulet to remember her father. When her sister is taken by Snatchers, Isra learns she is a Keeper, a protector of the borders of Zarcane. She must find the other Keeper and close the border along with avoiding demons and trying to find her sister. She just cannot decide who to trust because nothing is what it seems.
