Short Stories.
HTML:Martin Edward's 'Acknowledgments' is the winning story of the Crime Writers' Association Margery Allingham Short Story Competition, 2014. Julia Jones, one of the founders and judges of the competition, called it a 'worthy first winner' and said that Allingham 'would have loved it'. Bloomsbury Reader is delighted to be publishing this deserving winner alongside two additional short crime stories from Martin Edwards: 'Are You Sitting Comfortably?' and 'Neighbours', as well as his essay on Margery Allingham's short story writing and a foreword by Julia Jones. The best description of these several stories is that they have a realistic feel. One is innovative in the way it is narrated through a letter pushed under the door. Another leaves you with chills, and the final story is a shocking portrayal of a protagonist reveling in the worst of humanity and ultimately participating. It's worth the twenty the thirty minutes to read. They are entertaining but I don't know if I will remember them years from now or how much of a lasting impact they will have; that's why I gave them a three. The writing is good, though, and almost feels plausible. ( )
