Very beautiful pictures, with simple rhyming to go along. Lovely. ( )

Raindrops roll by April Pulley Sayre is about the importance of rain, and the effects it has on certain parts of nature. It has great pictures that show what happens to plants, bugs leaves etc. I liked this book. I think it had great picture to supplement the content. I think it could be used in a classrooms setting for kindergarten or 1st grade as a read aloud! I would use it in a unit on weather. One thing I like about it is it doesn't just explain what rain is but also applies the knowledge of what rain is to cause and affect, which will get kids using higher oder thinking! ( )

Lovely poetry and detailed nature photography will invite young readers to carefully inspect the wet world around them. As is frequently the case, I find myself wishing that the backmatter had been incorporated into the main text in some way. The main text is a poetic exploration of rain; the backmatter is a nonfiction book about the water cycle. ( )

Raindrops Roll is a very simple, but beautiful book about rain, its properties and how it impacts the world around us. I appreciated that the book uses really beautiful imagery and language, so children can gain a clear understanding of the scientific concepts the book talks about. Also the book has large pictures, so I think students in K-2 would have a really great time looking at the pictures on their own to really get a good understanding of what they're looking at. I would use this book in the classroom in a unit or lesson on the properties of water and how it shows up in the natural world around us in many forms: rain, mist, water vapor, snow, ice, and fog. I also think this book would be one to include in a science provocation around water because the pictures are so vivid and there aren't a lot of words in the text, but the words the author chose seem to be very intentional. Beautiful photographs, minimal text. Back matter includes "A Splash of Science" with much more information about water and rain.
