Asombroso. It was purely by accident that I began the third book in this trilogy without ever reading the first two, and yet I was able to follow along as well as anyone can follow a book of this mad and mysterious nature. I must say the tale was brilliant! Highly imaginative and extremely well written. The plot was a mind-boggling maze of twists and turns that evoked such bizarre intrigue it was difficult to stop reading at times to attend to the duties of real life. This book was a marvelous adventure that encompassed an enviable romantic affair I found purely satisfying. I look forward with giddy excitement to reading books one and two in the trilogy, knowing that if the author put half as much creativity into the beginning of this wild tale, I am in for a sweet treat! If an avid reader of the trilogy seeks closure, then this book is tolerable bordering on pleasant. Otherwise the sequencing and lack of cohesion may hinder enjoyment until the final 2/3 of the book. A few readers may find their religious convictions affronted by the theological assertions made in the reality of the metaverse (all-encompassing universes) of this book. The book's big reveal hinges on accepting a reality of universes that may bridle against people's earnest beliefs. Palma's prose has glimpses of its former strengths, such as scenes of life-imperiled action or exchanges of true love amongst the main characters. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"The action of the wondrous final volume in Spanish author Palma's speculative thriller trilogy (which began with "The Map of Time" unfolds in several Victorian eras in parallel universes, beginning with esteemed biologist Herbert George Wells' attempt to create a virus that will allow the residents of his doomed steampunk world to escape to another realm free of threat"-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

I do struggle with calling it purely a fantasy series, as it seems to sit right in between the sci fi and fantasy genre. It is written and translated from its original Spanish, very well. It is also quite unique, at least among all the novels I have read. A firm recommendation. ( )
