Private investigator Jil Kidd is finding life too damn complicated at the moment. The P.I. firm belonging to her mentor, Padraig, is in a financial mess, and to help him, she must take this latest assignment--which couldn't be more offensive. When Jil is sent to St. Marguerite's Catholic School to investigate teachers breaking their contracts of Catholic conduct, her investigation takes a dramatic turn after a student winds up dead on campus. To further complicate matters, circumstances keep throwing her together with the hot blond principal, Jessica Blake, at the center of her investigation. Decades-old secrets run deep through the veins of this traditional school, and Jil has to find answers to some chilling questions--like what really happened to those two boys in the old gym forty years ago--before another student pays the ultimate price. Difficult, when all she can think about is getting Jessica into bed.… (plus d'informations)

Great plot, great chemistry between the MCs, really good writing. I’m looking forward to reading the next one, which is already in my kobo but this one was intense and I need my heart to slow down a little first 😉 ( )

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, the title being what it was. For some reason I sorta got the idea in my head from the title that it was going to be a kinda lighthearted romance through Catholic school halls. Yep, I was really, really wrong about that. But not in a bad way. It was a serious book that was well plotted with a mystery that held my interest. And there was some lighthearted stuff in there too, just not as much as I thought there would be.

It's a mystery that takes place at a Catholic school, St. Marguerite's. Jil, a PI, gets assigned by her boss Padraig to go in undercover as a teacher at the school. The school board has hired Padraig's agency to find those on the staff of St. Marguerite's who are participating in 'UnCatholic conduct'. When she starts her undercover assignment she meets Jessica, who's St. Marguerite's principal. Needless to say that the topic of 'UnCatholic conduct' according to the contract that all the teachers/administrators sign definitely becomes seriously complicated for Jessica and Jil as the novel goes on. But then another story appears as well, and that's when the book gets really interesting.

It was a good read. As I said, the mystery held my interest and had some surprising twists and turns. The romance was also good, and I wasn't always entirely sure where it would end up either. (I assumed it would be a happy ending, but, you never know).

The only thing that really confused me was the ending. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a philosophical open ended thing, or if this'll be a series of books, but I felt like the ending left me hanging, and not in a good, 'The Lady, or The Tiger?' sorta way.

I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. ( )
