I was reading the illustrated Jungle Book available on gutenberg but gave up when i got to the end of the Mowgli stories.
Its fine, pretty much what you might expect. Its knockoff [b:Tarzan|40425|Tarzan of the Apes (Tarzan, #1)|Edgar Rice Burroughs|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1349074111s/40425.jpg|1774048] is actually much better despite Burroughs generally inferior writing abilities. ( )

I'd actually give this 3.5 stars; it is a bit difficult to read and really isn't a kids book (more for early teens). Some may disagree with it being a difficult read, but unless you're use to the style, it is difficult. I say it's a teen book, not because of the life and death themes, but because of the social concepts of being an outcast and finding independence. Not really concepts that are too familiar for most young readers. ( )

The Jungle Book is about a kid named Mowgli the Frog. Mowgli got trapped by wolves. Then Mowgli went to the Council Rock. In the Council Rock, he was on a little rock. And he was playing with even littler rocks. At the Council Rock, Shere Kahn the Tiger said, "Give me the man's cub." Then Bagheera the Black Panther came, and nobody crosses her path. And then they went back to their home, and then again the tiger said, "Give me the man's cub." He had burnt feet. Do you know how he got the burnt feet? Shere Kahn stepped into the man's fire.

Mowgli also got stolen by monkeys because he was sleeping too close to the trees. And then he got trapped when got captured. Bagheera got Balloo and Balloo got Kaa. And when the monkeys saw them it made their tails shiver. First Bagheera came to catch Mowgli. He got in a fight with Banderlog. Then Balloo came and got hurt by the Banderlog also. Kaa came and fought them and his hits are like a hammer hitting you hard on your head. While Kaa was fighting, Bagheera swam in the pond. While they were fighting, the monkeys also put Mowgli with posinous snakes in a pit. Mowgli used the words Balloo taught him to stand on his feet. "We are of one blood you and I" is what he said.

In the last part of the book, Mowgli got cast out of the jungle wolf pack. He went to the village. Then he went back to the jungle. And then he fell asleep where there were no traps with a diaper. And then one of the leader of the wolves, Akela. whispered into Mowgli's ear. You'll have to read the book to find out how it ends.

What I liked about the book: Mowgli killed Shere Kahn.

What I didn't like about the book: That Shere Kahn wanted to kill Mowgli.

First written over a century ago, The Jungle Book is considered by many as Kipling's finest work. This gorgeous full-colour edition is a book to treasure for ever. ( )
