Consider Thisis ostensibly a book about homeschooling using Charlotte Mason's teaching theory and the classical curriculum, but it's reach is really much greater than that small niche. It is a book about learning: how we learn and what motivates us to do so. There is also a very good section on understanding just what an education is and is meant to be. Particularly important is the focus given to Mason's belief in synthetic learning over analytical learning, and why the loss of emphasis on synthetic learning in modern education has been so devastating. Also, in spite of the book's first line, the book's first chapter is completely dedicated to discussing who Charlotte Mason was and why she's important, but then again a quick internet search will get you the same information. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the classical learning philosophy, Charlotte Mason, or education in general. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Classical education is an education of the heart and conscience as much as it is an education of the mind. This book explores the classical emphasis on formation of character and links Charlotte Masons ideas to the thinkers of the past. This is not a 'how to' book about education, but a 'why to' book that will bring clarity to many of the ideas you already know about teaching and learning.
