A Unhallowed Grave by Kate Ellis Wesley Peterson series book #3 3.5★ I really like this series and this author. There is always two stories in these books...one that requires an archaeologist and one that requires the skills of a detective...both are provided by Ms. Ellis. I found the parallels presented by the two murders that were separated by 500 years a bit too coincidental to ring true. Never the less it was a very entertaining read and a great addition to this series. A woman is found hanging from a churchyard tree but the autopsy shows she was strangled before being strung up. DS Wesley Peterson investigates while his archaeologist friends are excavating land due for development nearby. I'm enjoying these, but I notice there are 22 in the series. I can't help but wonder how long it will be before the characters notice the pattern of Neil's archaeological and historical discoveries parallelling Wesley's cases and use that information. I found it hard to get too interested in this one. The murdered woman, Pauline, was thinly portrayed and therefore difficult to become concerned for. Then there were the suspects: Destry, Wills Sr, Wills Jr, Thewlis etc whom I struggled to keep separate in my mind. The police officers do continue to be fully rounded characters, but Neil is still one-dimensional. Time for a rest from this series, I think. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

It seems an unlikely coincidence - two women hung from the same tree five centuries apart. Wesley is forced to consider that the killer also knows the tree's history. Has Pauline been executed rather than murdered and, if so, for what crime? Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

A little 'historical note' sets the scene for each chapter giving the reader extra information to associate it to the present day murder and you always feel on the edge of cracking the mystery. You know that you have it sussed, just before Wesley Peterson provides the answer which, is always a side step away from your solution!
