I would definitely be interested in reading the other books in this trilogy. ( )Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I didn't realize how short this story was, so I was surprised to get through what I thought of as the introductory adventure, then I get hit with the ending cliff hanger for the next book! I'm sorry to say that there wasn't enough of a story for me so I wasn't caught up in the story or by the characters. I read a lot of this kind of fiction, so much of this one came across as predictable. I don't think I'll follow this series. I would like to thank author Kelly Ann Jacobson and Library Thing for granting me a copy of this e-book to read in exchange for an honest review. Though I received this e-book for free that in no way impacts my review.Jacket Teaser: "Though Zoey, a sixteen year old farm girl with magical powers, does not know the extent of her abilities or how she got them, when her best friend is kidnapped by a wizard named Danger, she runs away from home and begins a quest to find him. On the way she meets Angela, a witch who can see the future through dreams; Mother Shipton, her loyal cat sidekick; Will, a man who claims to be immortal; and Red, a dragon with a grudge. Zoey's friends help her discover the rest of her powers, as well as the forgotten past that earned her such a dangerous enemy." Although this is a very short story, coming in at 46 pages, it still has all the necessary ingredients to make a good read. Our protagonist is a strong-willed teenage girl who just happens to have magical powers. Her backstory helps define who she's become, which is a steadfast, loyal friend and family member. She is also tremendously stubborn, a trait that she'll need if she's to accomplish her goals. The prologue is a fascinating story on its own, but when used to create the backstory for this first installment in Zoey's story it takes on even greater power and meaning. It also acts as a lesson in myth form. The stage it sets is was allows for a story of such brevity to work as well as this one does, which is quite a feat to accomplish in a handful of pages, and speaks to the talent of the author. The way Zoey rolls with the punches is in stark contrast to the event that set her on her current course of action, yet her personality seems to allow for it. As it allows for the unexpected romantic interest that appears during her journey. But all these fall to the wayside when looking at the ending and knowing that this is only the first part of the story, for the ending alludes to much more permanence than should be expected if this storyline is to be continued. It is intriguing, making me interested in knowing what comes next, as well as what came before. And that, again, is a sign of good writing. Kelly Ann Jacobson is definitely a writer to keep an eye on, as I anticipate more good things from her in the future, though personally I'm hoping for something closer to full novel length. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
