This could be good for library collections where the younger set (4th - 6th) are frequently requesting Zombie books. Larry and his friends are believable kids who sometimes freeze, and sometimes act heroically. There is a nice amount of humor and the resolution is reassuring. There is quite a bit of gore, but I think kids requesting these books would be disappointed if there wasn't a bit of gore, and it manages to not be truly frightening. Definitely a funny little book and has the requisite gross-out elements for kids, especially boys, of a certain age range. My 9 year old son read it as well, and he declared it funny and gory. One memorably funny scene for him was the discussion of how using chainsaws on a zombie is a bad idea because you might get zombie goop all over you. For those concerned about the violence of that discussion, the zombie goop-spray problem due to chainsaw use is never actually tested. Finally, in my son's opinion, the book is best for ages 10+. I'd largely agree, although I'd push that down to 9, as he enjoyed it. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. This tween zombie story was a quick read and while it won't be a favorite of older, hardcore zombie fans it WILL be well loved by elementary and young middle school readers just getting their feet wet in the zombie apocalypse. I will be adding this book to my grades 5-9 library and I expect it to have heavy circulation among the younger grades.Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. This book is freakin adorable... AHEM I mean - its super cool and grotesquely fun and just... freakin adorable! I know this book is meant for the middle school readers - and they will love it! But I loved it too. This had me giggling out loud on more than a few occasions. The characters were great. There was no lack of action, but it was not so gross that it would scare young minds. I thought it would be perfect for a 5th or 6th grader. I did think the ending got a little carried away and felt rushed but I think your average pre-teen wouldn't mind and may not even notice. This book was great fun and I think kids will love it! Thanks Librarything Early reviewers for giving me this book for my honest review. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Larry Mullet is your typical fourth grader. He's not the biggest kid or the smartest kid or the best looking kid. He rides his bike, plays baseball, takes the school bus, avoids cafeteria food, and--oh yeah, he's a zombie hunting expert. Larry was just doing his usual thing when Alex Bates from Ms Hoag's class tried to eat him. Sadly, that was only the beginning. Something odd was going on at Brooks Elementary... and it was up to Larry and his friends to take charge (for some reason). Hilariously told interview-style as a record of the REAL story, and peppered with zombie tips and facts, zombie cheerleaders and plenty of gore, this book will be a surefire hit for anyone interested in a ghoulishly good life-or-death comedy.
