Martin David, an eager but inexperienced financial analyst, is the newest member of the investment team at Skeiron Capital Partners in London. His boss is an avowed financial genius, but he's also overbearing and intense. Despite his erratic behaviour, Martin can't help being drawn to him both professionally and personally. Too bad his boss doesn't seem to feel the same. In a firm where pedigree and connections mean far more than Martin's newly-minted business degree, Martin feels desperately inadequate-at least until he meets the enigmatic investment manager Alec Berger, who promises to help Martin establish himself in the financial community. Martin is so charmed by Alec's sophistication and wit that he gives him data that should have stayed confidential. Then the financial crisis hits. Banks burn, companies teeter on the brink, and Skeiron's survival is at stake. Martin is pushed into the middle of the fight for Skeiron-against both the tanking economy and a ruthless enemy who's stepped out of the shadows to collect the spoils. Return on Investment is the new gay financial thriller from EPIC Award winner and Lambda Award finalist Aleksandr Voinov.… (plus d'informations)

Very difficult for me to rate. Not quite a romance at all. A lot of strong characters and fairly realistic tension. I suppose I disagree with the author (per the note at the end) that Francis and Martin will make it, but maybe that's another book altogether. I hoped for a while Martin would realize Josh was the best thing to ever happen to him, but I honestly think Josh is too good for Martin.

As the author himself admits, this book is an unusual combination of themes. It's difficult to describe this book using neat categories. But I found it to be an excellent piece. Emotionally honest and written in a spare style. Not overloaded with cinematic details, but rather in the main character's head, paying attention to the things he's focused on.
It's been a few month since I've read this, but the characters are still with me. The story kept me guessing until the final pages. Love the emotional suspense.
I thought this was a really genuine book. Five stars unreservedly. ( )

19-Jun-2018: Read this for the fourth (or fourteenth?) time and I'm STILL blown away by this book. It is, IMO, the quintessential workplace romance (I use that term loosely because there's an undercurrent of ruthlessness throughout, and it has an HFN ending). It's hard and sexy and just so POWERFUL. This bloody book is a drug and I am hooked. Bravo, Mr. Voinov.

I'm off to read ROI #2 for the sixth time.
--------------

Spectacular, sparkling and smouldering read. I was intoxicated by the hard-hitting and realistic depiction of the cutthroat world of private equity finance, and the glitzy and hedonistic tastes of the movers and shakers of that world. Tremendous read. I cannot wait to buy and read Book#2 and learn more about the enigmatic Francis. So glad I found this book. It blew me away. ( )
