This was an interesting book. The MC is a Muslim teen girl who operates as a PI. Her newest case turns out to not be as simple as expected, and is linked to the murder of her father and family secrets and history. I really enjoyed reading this, really liked Scarlett, and would love to see more of her in the future. I am a bit torn by the ending, which ends in a bit ambiguous manner and the reader is left hanging without knowing if the whole djinn/portal thing is real or not. This is a quick reading, hard-boiled, noir style mystery with a super believable teen girl voice and likeable characters. I know it's showing up in lots of reviews, but seriously, if you were into Veronica Mars you should give this book a try. Scarlett is THE BEST. I loved her voice, the snarky detective-story-style one liners, and the sisterly dynamic. I'm hoping this is a series! This was my "YA novel" entry for the Read Harder challenge. This novel is mystery suspense. Scarlett is sixteen years old, but she seems like she’s more in her early twenties. She has finished high school early and has an office for her detective business. One day a nine-year-old girl arrives and wants Scarlett to investigate her brother, whom she thinks killed a friend of his. The police believe the friend committed suicide, but once Scarlett meets the brother, she knows something is seriously wrong. As Scarlett investigates, she discovers that her father’s murder and her own destiny are tied to this case. Everyone in her life except her sister knows what is going so, so Scarlett has to play catch up and try not to be killed like her father. In this fast-paced novel, you will be turning pages as fast as you can read. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

HTML:Meet Scarlett, a smart, sarcastic fifteen-year-old, ready to take on crime in her hometown. When Scarlett agrees to investigate a local boy's suicide, she figures she's in for an easy case and a quick buck. But it doesn't take long for suicide to start looking a lot like murder. As Scarlett finds herself deep in a world of cults, curses, and the seemingly supernatural, she discovers that her own family secrets may have more to do with the situation than she thinks...and that cracking the case could lead to solving her father's murder. Jennifer Latham delivers a compelling story and a character to remember in this one-of-a-kind debut novel. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
