( ) What a great but terrible book! Great because it is the story of an adult lifetime caught in less than 60 pages, because it makes me feel like it is really happening, not just a collection of lines of fiction. Horrible, for several reasons. The first being, that the illness of the main character makes the book nearly personal. And all the others are: anger with such an a*hole of a man, a terrible father, a lousy husband, disbelief that this is really happening (allright, really happening in the story, not IRL, I know). And also sorrow for the main character mixed with anger: why not leave him after what he did? This review almost counts more words than the short story. If you are up to a read that will shake up your world for a bit, this one is recommended! The Unremarkable Heart is Karin Slaughter’s latest short story, published exclusively as an e-book. June Connor is dying of lung cancer; her ex-convict husband Richard is caring for her on her death bed. As she thinks back on how she has arrived at this stage, she mourns her teen-age daughter, Grace, and tries not to allow her last thoughts in this life to be depressing and negative, but thinking back to the events of twenty-one years before makes it difficult. And her husband decides, on this, her last day, to tell the shocking truth. Slaughter once again leaves the reader gasping. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
