As punishment for plotting with his brothers to steal immortality, Garreth is suffering a freezing torment until the end of time. Again and again, his fierce fighter's physique is frozen into a chiseled ice sculpture, his heart hardening like a diamond in his chest-only to thaw and resume the chilling torture. Until, like his older brother Dethan, he is offered a reprieve from a goddess-in exchange for his allegiance in a celestial civil war. Garreth lives to fight and fights to live. But while laying siege to an embattled city, he finds another reason to go on-a beautiful warrior woman named Sarielle, who commands a mythic beast through a mysterious and powerful bond. Terrified of her strength, the city rulers have kept her captive, and now she refuses to submit to a new master. As Garreth seeks to unleash her passion and melt the icy resistance of her heart, will he become her ultimate salvation-or lead them both to greater destruction?… (plus d'informations)

Cursed by the gods to suffer painful freezing and unfreezing every night, the hero who stole immortality must lead his army to conquer sites under the goddess name in return for his freedom from his prison. It's at one city where he meet the heroine. She's soul bound with a dragon and is forced by her master to use the beast to defend the city. Noticing she controls the beast, the hero actually shoots her in the chest, caging the dragon to fly off. After winning the battle and capturing the city, the hero realizes she was just a slave to the evil ruler and immediately captured by her beauty. Being distrustful of others, it takes her some time to realize the warrior means her no harm and in fact, means to free her and all slaves from their imprisonment. I really liked this story but it was certainly missing a villain. Because there wasn't really a master evil bad guy for the characters to face off with, in a weird way the hero from the previous book and Gareth's brother sort of became a villain. I don't know how I feel about that. Going from absolutely loving a character in his own story to disliking him in the next. He conspired to separate the two lovers. His reasoning was that the curse withheld his brother from finding and having a woman in his life as it will anger the goddess and send him back to prison. Of course, he did the exact same thing as his brother in the previous book but suddenly his brother can't have the same love? It angered me that he would be so selfish. The hero spent most of the book at odds with his brother because of the older mans treatment of the heroine. The hero went from a brooding, unhappy and zombie like man who's life was full of torment and hardship to a man who could smile despite his curse and this was because of the heroine. She was innocent and naïve but she would have done anything for the hero. I loved them together. The sex scenes were never pornographic despite being explicit but were always full or love and tenderness. Almost from the being of the story, the hero knew he loved the beautiful woman and his unwavering devotion to her made me smile. I can't wait until the next brother comes along! ( )

Disclaimer: I received no compensation from the author, Netgalley or the publisher for this honest review.

This is the second book in this series. You can read my review of the first one here.

This story focuses on Garreth, the warrior cursed to freeze at night. He tries to have icy control over his heart and emotions but all that gets disrupted by innocent and vulnerable Sarielle whose heart is just as chilled and guarded as his.

The mix of jaded warrior (Garreth) versus innocent, yet stubborn protector (Sarielle) made the story a decent read. This one took me longer to read than the first one and I can't quite pinpoint why. Overall, so far, this series is pretty good.

Would I recommend this? This sequel keeps the pace set by the first. If you like to finish a series then yes, go for it. ( )

Book 2 in a supernatural romance, although this novel can be read as a stand-alone. The plot is appealing and the dragon-like creature is an excellent addition to the list of characters. I am interested in finding out what happens next with the third brother, but the writing did not flow as well as usual in Jacquelyn Frank's work. If you do enjoy this series, I suggest her Nightwalkers and World of Nightwalkers series. There's a bit more polish in those stories. Overall, this novel is a decent weekend read for fans of supernatural romance.
