New from bestselling authors Mindy Starns Clark and Susan Meissner, The Amish Blacksmith (Book 2 in The Men of Lancaster County series) explores the men of an Amish community in Lancaster County, how their Amish beliefs play out in their unique roles, and the women who change their lives.

Apprenticed blacksmith Jake Miller is skeptical of Priscilla Kinsinger's innate ability to soothe troubled horses, especially when he has own ideas on how to calm them. Six years earlier, Priscilla's mother died in an awful accident at home, and Priscilla's grief over losing her mother was so intense that she was sent to live with relatives in Indiana. She has just returned to Lancaster County.

Not that her homecoming matters to Jake, who is interested in courting lighthearted Amanda Shetler. But Jake's boss is Priscilla's uncle, and when the man asks Jake to help his niece reconnect with community life, he has no choice but to do just that. Surprisingly, he finds himself slowly drawn to the beautiful but emotionally wounded Priscilla.

Jake then determines to prove to her that it's not her fault her mother died, but what he discovers will challenge everything they both believe about the depth of love and the breadth of forgiveness.

This second book of “The Men of Lancaster County” centers on Jake, blacksmith, farrier, and horse whisperer. Jake, an easy-going Amish man is courting Amanda, whose temperament is much like Jake’s. Things seem almost perfect: Jake sees his future with Amanda, doing the work he loves, caring for horses. But into his calm world comes Priscilla, a young Amish woman who tragically lost both her parents years before. Priscilla’s uncle, Jake’s boss, asks his help to ease her back into the community of young people. Suddenly, Jake’s life is not so simple. Priscilla is a challenge in more than one way, and forces Jake to take a deep look at his own life. An intriguing tale with continuing characters, this installment is better than the first, with more in-depth development. ( )

"4.5 out of 5 stars. A heartwarming novel about an Amish blacksmith who feels he has everything he ever dreamed of and is on the path that God wants him to be on, that is until a girl--now woman--from his past shows up and throws his beliefs into question. Jake & Priscilla are a great pair."

Another wonderful series by two talented authors!

This series began with “The Amish Groom” … and Mindy Starns Clark and Susan Meissner have done a marvelous job with this next installment -
“The Amish Blacksmith”.

It’s not often we get to see a series that features Men as the main character. It is a whole new take on a very popular genre and I feel like Susan and Mindy have just nailed it!

It is enlightening to see the differences in how men approach the same situations as we are usually reading about from a woman’s perspective.

But Mindy and Susan have found the way to do it right and the fans agree that this is a hit!

Don’t miss the first book in the series; “The Amish Groom” and don’t miss the next book - coming in 2015; “The Amish Clockmaker”!

And be sure to check out other books by Mindy and Susan too!

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Review: Enjoyed the majority of the book. I liked Jake and Priscilla, was never sold on Amanda. I did like all the secondary characters like Amos, Owen and the Kinsinger family along with the Miller family. Great sequel and yet a good stand alone book. The thing that I found slow was toward the end. A lot happened yet it seemed to move slower than the beginning and middle. Great ending with believable events throughout. Enjoyed the real faith that was included and scripture use. That was real nice to see slipped in the story with sincere warmth for the scripture picked and used.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Harvest House Publishers for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone. ( )

Now I love a horse story that will teach you at the same time as entertain. This one is teaching about horse conformation on the first page – big plus in my book!

Jake Miller is a 24 year old Amish man working an apprenticeship as a farrier. He has big dreams to set up his own smithing shop in the future, whilst also working to help people with problem horses. Continued at http://equus-blog.com/the-amish-blacksmith/ ( )
