"A first-ever trade edition of the original manuscript of the beloved Christmas classic. Every year at the holidays, the historic Morgan Library & Museum in Manhattan displays one of the crown jewels of its extraordinary collection: the original manuscript of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, with its detailed emendations, deletions, and insertions in Dickens's own hand. Here, for the first time in a beautiful trade edition, A Christmas Carol: The Original Manuscript Edition presents a facsimile of that invaluable manuscript, along with a typeset version of the story, a fascinating introduction by the Morgan's chief literary curator on the history of the story, and a new foreword by Colm Tóibín celebrating its timeless appeal."--… (plus d'informations)

This is the first time ever reading the full story by Dickens. I have read the children's versions several times when I was younger. This is the first Dickens story that I have read.
I enjoyed this story. It is the story of how a miserable, greedy, old man changes his fate and is saved from the same fate as his deceased partner, Jacob Marley.
Jacob appears to Scrooge and tells him that he will be visited by 3 Spirits (Ghosts). Christmas Past, Present, And Yet To Come. Each spirit shows him very important aspects of his life and where he was headed, the last one being the graveyard seeing his own name on the grave.
He changes his thoughts and apologizes to everyone that he wronged. He then enjoys Christmas and is nice to everyone spreading Christmas cheer and helping the poor.
A wonderful and very thought-provoking story. ( )

Made for a nice quick read, ideal sort of book to read on the Kindle.

Weird breaks in the text to show pages as they were in the original manuscript, a little distracting at first but soon got used to it.

Couldn't help but hear Gonzo or Michael Caine narrating parts of it. Ended up remembering different versions we've watched.

Would like to get a pretty book-book version for next year. ( )

The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a really good book. It’s about a old grumpy man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is a very selfish man who everybody fears. Hes been like this ever since his old business partner, Jacob Marley died. So then 3 ghosts come to visit him before Christmas , if he doesn't change then he will may not have a future. I liked this book a lot because it has a very good lesson in it, the lesson is that always be kind to people and never be selfish unless there may be consequences. I liked how the author choose this lesson to teach people, well mostly younger people. In the book the author describes and gives goods details on the plot and desrcribes the characters really well.
The part that I did not understand was the ghost of christmas past because it didn’t give enough description, I didn’t understand why they were talking about it. I think the author should have talked about that part more and describe why the ghost took him there and how it changed him. I liked the ghost of christmas present because, it gave a lot of detail on how he should change and why he needs to change because of what might happen in the future. I liked Scrooge because the author described him very well and I could picture and understand what was going on with Scrooge, and how he was and why people disliked him a lot.
This is what I liked and disliked about the book otherwise it was a good book to read and to teach a lesson for others. ( )
