Easy-to-read text and colorful illustrations examine unusual animal facial features and how they help the animals survive.

"Creature Features" is precious. It "asks" the animals why they have some of their features and the animals "answer" with sly, comedic, and truthful remarks about themselves. I appreciated how this book lists animals that are not popular in many of the children's books that we read today. Animals like babirusa, Egyptian vulture, and the frilled lizard are all represented and some even get a two page spread like the blobfish. This book was informative and entertaining and I can see teachers reading it aloud to their students and giving a unique voice to each animal. There is also a list of where each animal can be found on the globe in the back so students can learn where they come from as well as why they look the way they do. ( )

This is a fun animal book with facts about a variety of different animals. The point of view is like an interview. The book states a question and each animal answers it. Very good illustrations as well.

Fascinating! So many interesting facts about 25 interesting creatures. This would be a great book to read aloud as inspiration for students before they choose and writing a research report on an animal. It would also be a good addition to a nonfiction section of a classroom library. Some of the questions are worded in what might be considered a "rude/teasing/mean" voice, this is my only concern. I think it would be important to have a conversation about remembering to use polite language during any inquiry/interviewing of actual people.

Various different animals from a frilled lizard to an axolotl answer questions on why they look the way that they do. Each animal is asked a question. (example: Dear leaf-nosed bat: Seriously is that your nose?). After each question, the animal answers (example: I know, I know - it looks strange. But my nose directs the high-pitched sounds I make, which helps me find my way as I fly.)
