At the last supper, Christ cursed his apostles to live as vampires forever for their betrayal. As Simon’s biological son, Kellan was living a reckless life in 1028 Dublin. He was set to be executed for murder, but his father turned him and rescued him. He was told he was part of ancient prophecy that said Kellan was chosen to father a child with The Daughter, a distant relative of the Living God who cursed them, that would save all of the vampires. Lucifer, however, has no intentions of letting that prophecy ever happen and is willing to do anything to prevent it.

Despite the fact that the vampires lost track of the bloodline, Kellan is able to find her, have her fall in love with him, and impregnate her, but not without falling in love back. To make matters worse, he keeps having nightmares about Nicole and the baby getting found by Lucifer and killed on a farm where the girl grew up. To make matters worse, Nicole disappears off the map her last trimester and it’s up to Kellan to find her before it’s too late. Will he find the two in time? Can he protect his baby and Nicole? Will the prophecy come to pass or will Lucifer win? Will he find a way to be able to stay with Nicole and the baby?

Due to health problems, Nicole Erwin is surprised she got pregnant. After she found out she was pregnant, Kellan had announced to her that he was going to be gone for 9 months and Nicole found out she had a high-risk pregnancy. In her last trimester, her long-lost father dies and leaves her a large farm estate. In an attempt to limit her stress and start over, she moves from her home in New York to the place where she grew up and even invites her friend, Mia to come stay with them. Neither one, however, has any idea how much danger they are really in or that a high-risk pregnancy is the least of their worries. Will Nicole and the baby make it?

This book is extremely well-written, action-packed and hooks the reader from the beginning. The complex plot keeps the reader interested while toying with what they think is going to happen. The story and writing style are unique and well-crafted. The author masterfully weaves action, mythology, internal dialogue, and suspense together. The plot twists and turns keep the reader on their toes and wanting to keep going.
The characters are well-developed and well-rounded. I liked how human they all seemed despite the fat that most of them are vampires. Although the nuns at the place where Nicole worked were jerks, it fit the profile of what the author was trying to achieve.

Overall, I’d give it 4 out of 4 stars. Fans of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons as well as authors like Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child will find this book delightful, entertaining, and gripping from beginning to end.
