"Cent can teleport. So can her parents, but they are the only people in the world who can. This is not as great as you might think it would be--sure, you can go shopping in Japan and then have tea in London, but it's hard to keep a secret like that. And there are people, dangerous people, who work for governments and have guns, who want to make you do just this one thing for them. And when you're a teenage girl things get even more complicated. High school. Boys. Global climate change, refugees, and genocide. Orbital mechanics. But Cent isn't easily daunted, and neither are Davy and Millie, her parents. She's going to make some changes in the world"--… (plus d'informations)

DNF at 10% due to boredom with a topic I, a lifelong space geek, ought to have enjoyed. *sigh* ( )

This is the fourth book in the Jumper series, and I know that because that's what it says on the cover and there are a lot of common characters. But while the first three were all thrilling and infuriating (in a good way), this one was beyond dull. Frankly, even calling it "dull" is being kind. A good ("good") 90% of this book read like the author wanted to show off all of the study notes that he collected while going insane studying Astrophysics.

I appreciate that Gould needed to take the series in a new direction, but it's very obvious that this story has been told now. Even [b:Impulse|13614730|Impulse (Jumper, #3)|Steven Gould|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342631587s/13614730.jpg|19215400] was greatly stretching the story, and that one didn't have anything truly EXCITING happen until the last couple of dozen pages. This book suffers from a similar fate, only moreso - it really seems that the author forgot that he had an over-arching series story to address, so he quickly cobbled something together at the last minute. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Cent's easy handling of the bad guys in both this and the previous book effectively undo all of the excrutiatingly thrilling danger of the first 2 books.

I wouldn't be surprised if somebody convinces Gould that he could wring another story out of this series, but I doubt I'll come along for that one. ( )

Read this book as part of a series. Sci-fi action stuff. Not terribly deep but in this time of Covid spikes and Holiday and post election stress it was quite enjoyable. I liked the characters and the idea of this ability (teleportation) is fun. Recommend the series for some light exciting reading. ( )

Exo Steven Gould September 2014 Sci-Fi 5/5

Exo is the fourth book in the Jumper series (canonical) by Steven Gould. It follows Cent, a teen with the ability to teleport. The story is about her quest to explore outer space. I love this book. It’s action packed and moves quickly. It’s an easy read. The good guys triumph. She does tons of cool stuff. There’s a fair bit of technical ideas- in the vein of The Martian. It’s right up my reading alley. I reread this book periodically. Recommended. ( )

The ending was a little rushed, and a little unsatisfying, though it does open up some interesting possibilities for the future. ( )
