The 22nd collection of Schulz's complete "Peanuts", from 1993 to 1994. Here we see Peppermint Patty and Marcie continuing their unrequited love triangle with Charlie Brown, who finally seems to be getting a clue about their feelings toward him, but still pines for the little red-haired girl. He actually does, with Linus' help make a stumbling sort of attempt to introduce himself to her, but of course the course of true love never runs straight in the world of "Peanuts". To add to the romantic confusion, another girl is introduced, a pitcher for the opposing team named "Royanne", who claims to be the great-granddaughter of Roy Hobbes (who is a fictional character, Charlie Brown helpfully points out). She confesses that she allowed Charlie Brown to hit a home run off of her because... she likes him. For a hapless blockhead, Charlie Brown seems to be developing into quite the ladies' man, although he hasn't a clue what to do with them. Oh, and we discover, for the first time, I think, that Peppermint Patty's last name is Reichardt. Sad to think that the series is nearing its end. There are plenty of strips here where I think Schulz was running on creative fumes, but over all, it's still a remarkable body of work, and every panel written, drawn and inked entirely by Schulz's own hand (17,897 of them).
