This story is a sampling of different stories from "Every Tongue Got To Confess". "What's the Hurry,Fox?: And Other Animals" contains a collection of 9 brief pourquoi tales passed down from previous generations. There were stories about different animals, the ocean, and the weather. I found the stories quite interesting, however, some did not capture my interest. My favorite tale is "Why the Dog Hates the Cat". That tale has a message that tells the reader to not be selfish and share with others. The dog and cat were friends, until the cat ate all of the ham that they both were going to share. The dog then was hurt by the cat's actions and told him they are no longer friends. Each tale is short and simple, but they all have meaningful messages. The illustrations for each tale were amazing. My favorite illustration is from the tale "Why the Waves Have Whitecaps". The illustrator, Bryan Collier, brought these tales to life from his breathtaking and detailed illustrations. Overall, this was an interesting book with stunning illustrations. I think children will love the illustrations, but not all of the tales. ( )

I think the illustrator did a great job with the artwork in this book. The art helped me remember how closely related these text were to the original stories. I also like how there are multiple stories in this one book, it kept me interested in continuing to read. I think children would really appreciate the artwork and the length of the stories. My favorite story in this book is "Why the Waves have Whitecaps." ( )

Collection of fables

Why the buzzard has no home - the buzzard is a procrastinator so he always misses an opportunity to build a home.

Why porpoise's tail is on crosswise - the porpoise beat the sun around the world but God didn't like that so he made his tail crosswise to slow him down.

Why donkey has long ears - the donkey was so stubborn to walk so his owner had to pull him by the ears to get him talk walk

Why the dog hates the cat - they were good friends and were going to share some ham but cat selfishly climbed a tree to eat it all by herself.

This book started and ended with Why the Buzzard has no Home but the scene is different. One is raining so the buzzard can't build a home and the ending is sunshine but the buzzard doesn't want to waste the day inside. I thought this was interesting. ( )

This book is different to read aloud because it is so short and choppy and in a southern dialect. It's the author's spin on why things are the way the are in the world. So while it's crafty, it doesn't really flow because the animal's stories aren't linked.
