"Just as Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Guy Gardner are putting back together the Green Lantern Corps, lights across all of the different colored Corps begin to flicker. Lanterns from all over the universe begin to lose power, but unlike times' past, the reasons for the outage don't seem to be in-fighting between one another. Allying with enemies and friends alike, Hal links the answers to the mysterious alien Relic and their confrontations will leave all the corps forever changed. GREEN LANTERN VOL. 4 begins a brand new era for the entire emotional spectrum, from writer Robert Venditti (X-O Manowar) and artist Billy Tan (New Avengers). This volume collects GREEN LANTERN #21-26, #23.1: Relic, GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #2"--… (plus d'informations)

This was overlapping with the Lights Out event. It was okay, but Hal Jordan is really annoying. Still some exciting stuff going on and a new beginning. ( )

Just as the Corps is being reunited the lights of the Lanterns....go out. All of them. Everywhere. Not because of in-fighting between the colors, but something else seems to be causing it. Something...darker. Working together with enemies and friends alike the Corps finds the mysterious alien Relic who seems to be the cause of the outages. And his reasons will change the Corps, and the galaxy, forever.

After Geoff Johns long and successful run as the writer for Green Lantern, Robert Venditti takes over and hurls the Corps into a new and different direction. And depending upon how long you’ve been reading the Lantern series and how big a fan you are, seems to influence how much you’ll like this book. As a somewhat casual reader of the series I enjoyed aspects of Johns run, but to be honest I found the multitude of other rings and emotions a bit...overwhelming at times. And with so many different Green Lanterns from Earth around (Hal, John, Guy, etc.) it was a bit, difficult to decide who to like and not like. To that end Venditti has added a twist upon the powers that the Lantern’s wield in that the use of their rings will...well do something (no spoilers) catastrophic to the galaxy. And it’s a nice twist to be honest and gives readers something to look forward to, to see what happens to the Corps as they deal with this news. The artwork by Billy Tan is absolutely gorgeous and really showcases the variety of Lanterns and colors well.

Overall, I for the most part enjoyed the book and I look forward to seeing where Venditti takes the series. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. ( )

The Green Lanterns are under attack by outside forces and within his personal relationships.

While the graphics are beautifully detailed and greatly assist with the narrative and characters, I miss text and dialogue.

Overall, a fun read. ( )

So, this is more like the Green Lantern TPBs I like and have liked in the past. More bantering, more Carol/Hal drama, oh, and for some odd reason the New Guardians that are just out of their other world put Hal in charge of the entire Corps. I have to say that I’m with Hal, perhaps they need to brush up on his past before they put him in charge.

Still, they do, and then they go out into the universe to try and figure it out with some good old fashioned science.

But, of course, if it were really all that peaceful and easy it wouldn’t be an interesting TPB. OA comes under attack by Larfleeze and that’s not even the worst thing that happens, everyone’s rings suddenly blink out for a bit. And it doesn’t just happen once.

So, Hal and his new underlings have to set out to right this. Along the way we get to see Kyle do some stuff, there’s some more Hal/Carol drama too. And we meet a new sorta bad guy called Relic. His story was quite cool, and I even sorta hope that maybe we can see him again.

Overall I liked the TPB. It was more about the Lanterns, and not so much about the Guardians. The last few storylines had been about them, and it just got tiring, if DC had wanted to make a Guardian title then they should have named it that. When I read a Green Lantern title I want to read about actual Green Lanterns like Hal, John, Kyle, Kilowag, etc. And that was exactly what this had.

I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment. ( )
