This needs volume 3... 4... 5... and probably 6. And multiple side stories, even m/f ones. Betsy kicks some serious ass and I loved Drew too much to let him go. ( )

Almost as good as [b:Immortality is the Suck|6758368|Immortality is the Suck (Adam & Peter, #1)|A.M. Riley|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1251228181s/6758368.jpg|6954979]. It ended well but still with enough 'hmmm' moments that a third book is warranted. ( )

This has been one difficult book to read. Yes it is fast paced, but I had to force myself to finish reading it. Didn't work for me at all. The story had the potential to be so much better though.

*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley ( )

If I had to pick one word to describe Katherine Garbera's No Rest For The Wicked it would be Yum! Or Sexy. Or Hot. Katherine Garbera's hero's are sexy, alpha, yet vulnerable where the heroine is concerned. Sebastian is the perfect example of what to look for in a Garbera hero. I'm still fanning myself. Great cover too! ( )

No Rest For The Wicked opens in Los Angeles a year after the events of Immortality Is The Suck. Adam and Peter are on a date to see a movie, which is part of Adam’s new resolution to be a better boyfriend, rather than just a selfish sex-buddy, now that Peter has drawn the clearly amorous attentions of Jonathan, a preppy grad student. Jonathan makes Adam feel woefully outmatched, especially since Adam is older, dissolute, lacking prospects, and – oh, yes, a newly turned vampire, a fact that Peter is still struggling to accept.

After the movie, Adam goes to the restroom, but finds a dead man drained of blood and stuffed in one of the stalls. His first impulse is to sneak away and go home with Peter so that they can have sex. However, Peter is a detective with the LAPD’s elite Robbery-Homicide division and has no choice but to secure the crime scene. This is just the beginning of a fast-paced plot in which the murder of a software engineer points to a sinister conspiracy and a vampire cabal to be infiltrated and destroyed for the good of the unsuspecting citizens of Los Angeles.

You really need to read Immortality Is The Suck to appreciate No Rest For The Wicked. However, you’ll be happy to know that this sequel is even better. It’s a tighter read, shorter, and the relationship between Peter and Adam deepens and matures. We readers get so much to enjoy, including subplots involving the FBI, LAPD politics, and Adam’s involvement with a vampire group of vigilantes who take down their own kind, especially those who prey on children.

All of Adam’s fellow vigilantes are vivid, complicated characters. One standout is Drew, the one human in the group, who is both a vampire wannabe and a computer genius. He introduces Adam to the world of blogging, which Adam is stunned to realize includes thousands of troubled teenagers who write in, wanting to be turned into vampires. His efforts to answer their comments and discourage them are both funny and touching.

The other especially memorable character is Caballo, a hot young black man who is struggling with temptation to take what he increasingly regards as his rightful place as a vampire at the top of the food chain. If Caballo starts to prey on humans, the vigilante group will have to stop him.

No Rest For The Wicked is a must-read, and though it concludes various plot-threads on a satisfying note of completion, it may only be the latest adventure in what I hope will become an ongoing series. Other fiction by A. M. Riley available at All Romance Ebooks includes Immortality Is The Suck (my Wildfire Top Pick for December 2009) and Amor En Retrogrado (my Wildfire Top Pick for February 2010).
