This book tells the story of a rescued polar bear found in Alaska. The book is illustrated with high definition, but nonetheless amateurish photographs of a bear cub and its journey from rescue until it is finally placed in the Buffalo Zoo in NY. The text is easy for K-1 to understand and the story is relatively simple, and the pictures are cute.
I wouldn't read this book again because it does not provide any natural context for polar bear, but rather only shows them through the lens of a rescue situation, and all the animals in the book are animals held in captivity. The author never explains why the bear couldn't be released back into the wild and it actually reads as much like a kidnapping as it does a rescue.
While the overall design and publication of this book were adequate, the story overall did not sit well with me. ( )

Photo-essay about orphaned polar bear cub rescued in Alaska and eventually sent to live in Buffalo Zoo. Irresistibly adorable photographs with simple, engaging text. ( )
