As with his other biographies, Sis places numerous small illustrations around or within a larger illustrations, and these smaller illustrations are captioned. The book is large format and he includes two double page illustrations with no text at all, and some, like his illustration of the invasion of France, with very limited text. After a few of his biographies, you get to know what to expect, and if you liked one, you'll probably like them all. Sis is similar to the d'Aulaire's in this respect. I might not have wanted to read a biography of Saint-Exupery if Sis had not written one, but now I'm glad I did. ( ) The combination of Peter Sis's storytelling and illustration genius combined with the fascinating life of de Saint-Exupéry (which I previously knew nothing about) was stunning. Using non-traditional story-telling techniques (placing text surrounding images to literally pull you along through the story of the author's life) gave some real-time feeling and connection. While I felt that I knew what I wanted to know about the author of "The Little Prince", now I want to go out and find out more about Saint-Exupéry's life. Peter Sís's remarkable biography The Pilot and the Little Prince celebrates the author of The Little Prince, one of the most beloved books in the world. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was born in France in 1900, when airplanes were just being invented. Antoine dreamed of flying and grew up to be a pilot—and that was when his adventures began. He found a job delivering mail by plane, which had never been done before. He and his fellow pilots traveled to faraway places and discovered new ways of getting from one place to the next. Antoine flew over mountains and deserts. He battled winds and storms. He tried to break aviation records, and sometimes he even crashed. From his plane, Antoine looked down on the earth and was inspired to write about his life and his pilot-hero friends in memoirs and in fiction. Peter Sís is an internationally acclaimed illustrator, author, and filmmaker. He was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia aucune critique | ajouter une critique
