I admit that I don't normally read Amish fiction; however, the premise of this book seemed intriguing at the time. I ended up being pleasantly surprised at some of the twists and turns that this book took, although I would have to say that the cover does give off a different air than the content of the book. While I'm not likely to read other books by the author, Child of Mine was entertaining, and raised good questions about parenthood and what it means to be a mother. The deception that initially takes place is a little uncomfortable, but I'm thankful that some of the characters realize the importance of coming clean as the story progresses. The characters experience different types of hardship and the authors are successful in helping readers to sympathize with the circumstances they are facing. This book does touch on Amish culture, but is not contained to that world. If readers are already fans of the authors, this book will prove to be an engaging and suspenseful read. ( )

This one was pretty good---I didn't figure out the truth until page 321 so that's some pretty good mystery writing. But then, I didn't figure out the REAL truth until pg. 349. Ha! I felt Kelly's story was summed up way too quickly and neatly---that was frustrating. The book had a few annoying repeats and I had a REAL issue with the fact that no one at the lab was catching on to what Kelly was doing. In addition, her friends tell her she's being "unethical"...uhhh...it's a little more than that! I didn't think that was very realistic. I think she would have been investigated for sure. ( )

There were too many things that happened in the story to make it unrealistic. Although tragic that Kelly had her daughter taken from her, I could understand the beginning years of hunting but 8 years is a long time and then having a rich family subsidizing seems far fetched. Jack going that many years without ever going on dates then falling in love with 2 women. Would Kelly have acted the same way if the family she found was not rich? Just praying and everything turns out just right? Good points for Kelly eventually having a conscience, Laura knowing importance of secrets. ( )

Although I've read many books by Beverly Lewis, this is the first I've read that she wrote with her husband. Although we have one Amish character in it, it's not your typical Amish fiction which is what I look for now. I enjoyed how they gave you some possibilities for an outcome, but then the unexpected came. The spirituality in the book was natural for the characters, but it wasn't preachy at all. ( )

This is the first collaboration between David and Beverly Lewis I have read and I have to say I am very excited to read their others!

WOW!

This is most definitely the best book I’ve read this year – maybe even in the last few years. No offense intended to all of the other books I’ve read this year.

David and Beverly Lewis have written an amazing book – one that I will read and re-read for years to come.

In fact the first thing I did when I finished, before I even stopped crying, was hand it to mom – telling her she HAS to read it NEXT!

I was going to say that the only negative thing I have to say about this book is that from the very beginning of the book I felt a strong sense of foreboding - but after reading the book, I am convinced it was simply the exceptional writing of this unbeatable pair. They don’t just pull you into the story, they drag you right into their characters’ skin! And with this delicate topic, there is plenty of worry making it’s way through the people with fill these pages with their lives.

Yes. They’re that real!

And it is a true testament to their skill that the book does not real like it was written by two different people. It is as seamlessly smooth a partnership as I have ever seen between two people – another reason I am excited to read their other works as well… if for no other reason than to compare them to the solo books they’ve also written.

And this story is unlike any other story I have ever read – Amish or not!

There is nothing, positively nothing predictable about this book. Even when you are completely certain you have it all figured out… you’ll find out you’re wrong. I know I did. I was sure I knew what was coming and I could not have been more wrong.

But oh… to be wrong.

This story is a beautiful example of God’s plans and how far-reaching and inter-woven they are. These two wonderful authors weave together a story that involves so many people and so many different sub-plots and the end result is one you could never imagine… but when all is said and done, you can see the harmony of each little piece that came together and blended into the breathtaking tapestry that shows us just how much God loves each one of us!

And what a blessing!

READ IT! You won’t be sorry!

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. ( )

"Child of Mine" is an engrossing and captivating story of three adult characters and a child whose parentage is questioned after eight years has passed. The lives of these four people and those closest to them are followed through an interlacing plot, keeping the reader alert to any clues as to the direction these lives will take. I am very impressed at the seamless blending of the lives of these characters, having no clue as to which author is developing any particular scene. David and Beverly Lewis have composed a deep, emotion packed novel with continuity and integrity. I highly recommend this book!
