The best songs come from broken hearts. Bird Barrett has grown up on the road, singing backup in her family's bluegrass band and playing everywhere from Nashville, Tennessee, to Nowhere, Oklahoma. But one fateful night, when Bird fills in for her dad by singing lead, a scout in the audience offers her a spotlight all her own. Soon Bird is caught up in a whirlwind of songwriting meetings, recording sessions, and music-video shoots. Her first single hits the top twenty, and suddenly fans and paparazzi are around every corner. She's even caught the eye of her longtime crush, fellow roving musician Adam Dean. With Bird's star on the rise, though, the rest of her life falls into chaos as tradition and ambition collide. Can Bird break out while staying true to her roots? In a world of glamour and gold records, a young country music star finds her voice.… (plus d'informations)

This is a gentle but interesting story of a young girl moving into the lime light of a music career. She has to handle both specific issues -- how does the family balance change when one of them becomes a star? what kind of relationship should she have with her handlers? where do the lines of privacy go? and problems common to all youth -- will that boy call? how much homework can I evade?

I liked both the grounding of the realism and the peek into the world of country music.

Wildflower was an enjoyable young adult book about a teenage girl breaking into the music business. I thought it was a good story and the feelings of the main character were true to what I would imagine she would be going through in her situation. I will recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author. ( )

This book was okay for me. I just couldn't get into the heroine. She just didn't feel real to me. In fact, all the characters were uninteresting. The story just could not hold my interest. I ended up just skimming it towards the end because I wanted to give it a fair chance. The little bit of romance in the book did not amount to much which might have saved it for me. All I can say, was this book was just not my cup of tea. I appreciated winning a copy in the early reviewer giveaway since I love to try new authors but this is one author I may pass over next time. I am just not a fan of her writing style. ( )

A sweet start to a new country-filled Young Adult series. The story was predictable, but entertaining. The characters lacked a bit of dimension, but they were easy to root for. Overall 3/5 stars; I will be continuing the series. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Sixteen year old Bird Barrett travels the country performing with her family’s country/bluegrass band playing the fiddle and singing backup. She is discovered while singing lead for her sick father and is propelled into the life of a recording artist. As Bird grapples with her emerging fame, she must learn the rules of the publicity game and how to hold onto the relationships that she hold dear. As a character, Bird is a realistic and wholesome sixteen year old who really strives to make good decisions. I cringed at times when she had to sacrifice some of herself for the sake of her studio and I look forward to reading about how she handles it all in future books. This is a good young adult book that could be read by younger readers without qualms but is enjoyable for any age. I received this book from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Giveaway. ( )
