"Reagan Bishop is a pusher. A licensed psychologist who stars on the Wendy Winsberg cable breakout show, I Need a Push, Reagan helps participants become their best selves by urging them to overcome obstacles and change behaviors. An overachiever, Reagan is used to delivering results. Despite her overwhelming professional success, Reagan never seems to earn her family's respect. Her younger sister, Geri, is and always will be the Bishop family favorite. When a national network buys Reagan's show, the pressures for unreasonably quick results and higher ratings mount. But Reagan's a clinician, not a magician, and she fears witnessing her own personal failings in prime time. (And seriously? Her family will never let her hear the end of it.) Desperate to make the show work and keep her family at bay, Reagan actually listens when the show's New Age healer offers an unconventional solution.... Record Nielsen ratings follow. But when Reagan decides to use her newfound power to teach everyone a lesson about sibling rivalry, she's the one who will be schooled..."--… (plus d'informations)

"Twisted Sisters" was very funny. Reagan Bishop is an overachiever, and has always criticized her sisters for their lack of ambition. Reagan is a psychologist for a small cable network TV show called "Push". When her show is sold to a major network, there are big changes. Now Reagan only has one afternoon to work with her patients, and she's terrified of failing on national TV and earning the scorn of her family. So she turns to new Age healer Deva, who comes up with a way for Reagan to switch bodies with her patients during the crucial moment, film the breakthrough for the camera, and then switch back. Reagan hates doing this, because she genuinely does want to help these people, but she wants to succeed even more, so she goes along with it. All is going well until her boss (who she has a secret crush on) hires her sister Geri to replace the hair stylist. Everyone immediately takes to Geri, and Reagan is jealous. She takes advantage of Deva's switching abilities to inhabit her sister's body, so she can figure out why everyone likes her better. Poor Reagan. I really felt bad for her. She didn't seem like such a horrible person. A bit tightly wound, perhaps, but not as bad as all that. And her family really did seem awfully mean to her for no reason. But while inhabiting Geri's body she learns a lot of truths about herself and vows to make changes. Good for her! ( )

Reagan is the responsible, successful sister. She’s a TV psychologist on an Oprah type show called I Need a Push and thinks she is pretty darn near perfect. Her sister Geri, on the other hand, is flighty and low on ambition. She’s only a hair-dresser for Pete’s sake. (Reagan’s opinion, not mine.) Why is it that people, including her own family, like Geri so much more?

When I Need a Push is bought by a bigger network, they want to her segment to go in a completely different direction – one that she is not happy with. Her method is to dig deeply with each client and get to the root of their problem. The new network wants her show to be more like reality TV – high drama with the person “cured” by the end of the episode. Reagan knows there is no way she can make this happen. But then her New Age friend Deva offers up a solution.

Okay, Deva’s solution was completely unrealistic, which is fine. I didn’t know this book had magical realism in it but I can roll with it. However, none of the other characters even batted an eye. And this was something that regular people would have freaked out about for sure.

Also, the last half of the book seemed rushed. Reagan didn’t find out about Deva’s solution until that point and once she did, she didn’t need any convincing to use it. Even though it was freaky and unethical. And then it was over before I knew it. I read it on my Kindle so I didn’t have the physical feel of how many pages were left and I was genuinely surprised when it ended.

I read this book when I was in the hospital a few months ago and it was a great distraction because it’s definitely light chick-lit. However, I didn’t like it as much as Jen’s other forays into fiction and it’s definitely not as good as her memoirs. I think die-hard fans will be okay with it and have some fun but if you’re new to Jen, don’t start with this one. Start with her first memoir, Bitter is the New Black. It is hilarious! ( )

Um....I wanted to love this book, despite all the bad reviews, and for the first couple of chapters I almost did. I was even ok with not liking Reagan, because at least she was snarky in an 'i shouldn't be laughing at this but I am' sort of way. and then... the plot line advancing the story is...just no. unbelievable, boring, predictable and...no. Oh Jen...go back to doing whatever it was you did in Bitter is the New Black - because that's you at your best. this? not so much. ( )

To be perfectly honest, I almost DNF this book as soon as I landed on page 20.

I’d also prove she’s not allergic to nuts. (That was my ham sandwich, damn it!) ~pg 20

Food allergies is nothing to play with, and you wouldn’t “prove” anything. This was the hardest thing to overcome to even try to read the rest of the book. If someone says they have a food allergy, you shouldn’t have to prove anything. But on the plus side at least at the end of the book she did use Epipen and went to the ER.
With a daughter who is anaphylatic to tree nuts, I wouldn’t want anyone wanting to “prove” her allergies. We have seen what happens, and it can be deadly.

On another hand, I did find this book hard to read. The characters seem to lack, can’t put my finger on what they lack, but the focus of the book just wasn’t my cup of tea, or coffee. Would I try this author again? Sure. I just couldn’t get into the main character of Reagan, she was so self-centered. Who loves anyone like that? ( )
