I loved the balance of tightly written future and fast pace with leisurely exploration of the main character and his acquaintances. The story was gripping without making me uncomfortable. I received this as a LibraryThing Member GiveAway. Thank you. Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. Warren Linder is a DSS agent that is tired of the job now he feels like it is time to get out. But he knows that he won't be able to get far before they catch him. His latest undercover assignment has put him in a uncomfortable position as he knows the daughter of the man that he is meant to take down. At the last minute he promises to help them with awful results. He is sentenced to hard labour in the Yukon where most men die, but he isn't about to die yet as he knows where Patricia and her daughter Caroline are and he will do anything to try make things right. He escapes with six other men but he is the only one that makes it. But how can he make friends with her now as he is still hiding as he knows that he will never be safe.Patricia had it hard in the camp and she did everything that she could to protect her daughter but it just seems too hard most days. Can Warren tell her the truth about his involvement in their capture and why she forgive him? He is unable to get his chance with Patricia but he is able to give her daughter a second chance. So in the end he did what he promised even though it almost destroyed him. He is a good man trying to do the right thing and by getting Caroline to safety he became a better man. A good read abit too long winded in places but still an enjoyable read. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from the author. I picked this book up from a promotion at Bookbub and I'm so glad I did. I have not read the previous books in this trilogy so this review is based solely on this book. I found I soon got involved with the storyline and although this is the third in a series, it stands alone as a readable story on it's own. The characters I found to be rounded and full if at times the story became a little stretched with 'deja vu'. Overall a very enjoyable read. I will certainly be coming back for more from this author if this book is a fair reflection of his work. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

When undercover intelligence officer Warren Linder reaches Beirut in 2023 to lure an exiled opponent of the President-for-Life back to an impoverished post-Civil War II America, Linder is unaware that the target is his childhood sweetheart's father. On learning this, he ignores inner alarms and plunges ahead. But seeing the woman who rejected him years before triggers a change of heart that dooms the entire operation. Suspecting treachery, his superiors capture everyone present, including Linder, and spirit them back to the U.S. aboard a secret rendition flight. Linder's ensuing hero's journey takes him from a Virginia interrogation center to an Arctic labor camp; then, after an impossible winter escape, on a 2000 mile trek to the Utah Security Zone, where his onetime love was last held. Though he finds her, their respective ordeals have changed each of them. The climax takes Linder to their home city of Cleveland, where Linder aims to recover the dead target's last cache of rebel funds and flee to a place beyond the regime's reach. I'LL DIE LATER is a tragic yet life-affirming saga of a man who risks everything to set right past wrongs, regain lost love and resist the tyranny he once served." Exile Hunter is third book of the Kamas Trilogy. This is probably the best book of all three.
In Exile Hunter, agent Warren Linder is asked to find missing assets that an opponent of the President-for-Life has stolen. In the process, agent Linder realizes that he knows the daughter of the target. Agreeing to leave the target's family out of government affairs, Linder is set up by his own people and accused of sabotaged and sent to prison for life. While in prison he plans his escape and promises to set the wrongs he made right. ( )
