I have read most of Keene's work and enjoy quite a bit of it. I pretty much buy everything he writes right after it is released.

This one, however, reads like a fragment. I was very entertained while reading it and then it just ended. I hope he returns to this story and it becomes the first section in a longer work.

$4.99 was very steep for what I got, which is only part of a story. Make no mistake, when/if the rest of this story is released I will be all over it. ( )

I really enjoyed this story. Short and direct, straight to the point.
I dont normally enjoy short stories... But this was one truly amazing horrific interpretation of the Apocalypse. I recommend this story to everyone who is religious; spiritual; AND the non-believing atheist.
BRAVO BRIAN KEENE. 5 stars all across! :) ( )

My only problem with this book is that it felt like the first section in a larger work. I hope Keene revisits this book one day and tells us the rest of what happens to the protagonist, a key player in the world coming to an end.

Very good book, and while at times what is happening is broadcast very clearly, I am unsure if there is a way to discuss the beginning of the end of the world based on Biblical texts without what is happening being clear to a large portion of the readers.

An excellent, dark, sad, absorbing book. This is actually a 4.5 star book. ( )

Take The Long Way Home is a novella by horror expert Brian Keene, this is the same story that you'll find in one of his out of print collections called Unhappy Endings - but if you've not read that then read on.

The story follows Steve and Charlie on their way home from work, which takes a turn for the worse when a loud trumpet blares and thousands, if not millions of people around the world disappear; causing plane and train crashes, roadways to become blocked and panic all around the world. Along the way they meet up with Frank and between then try and work out what has happened to make so many people vanish.

Whilst this isn't the longest of stories it's a well paced and fun read which makes you think even when you finished the story.

3.5/5 ( )

Alright, I don't know any German, but it's Brian Keene. How can you go wrong there? I don't think that you can, even if I can't read it. ( )
