I personally did not like this book very much because I don't think it gave the right message to children. In the story, Peter Rabbit and his cousin Benjamin Bunny go into Mr. McGregor's garden to pick pumpkins and parsnips even though they are not supposed to. Peter and Benjamin sneak out of their house and go through a series of scares because they think they have been caught by someone. Eventually, after eating some parsnips from the garden, the rabbits turn around and go home to find that Peter's mom has boiled pumpkin and pumpkin seeds for them. Even though the boys snuck out of the house and went somewhere they weren't supposed to go, they still got what they wanted in the end which I don't think is a good message for kids to hear. I did, however, really enjoy the illustrations. They made me feel like I was right there with Peter and Benjamin which I think is especially important for children. One of the reasons I gave this book 3 stars is because the author used words to describe objects and actions that I don't think children would usually think to use. For example, when the author is talking about hearing a sound, she wrote, "an awful screeching howl sounded nearby" instead of simply writing, "a loud sound" or something similar.
