I got a physical copy after I had listened to the audio book and I may read it in the future. Trollope worked on this over and over, first as a play, then a novel. This is about the best you can do with this story, but it isn't that interesting a story. Trollope is visibly a Dickens contemporary, which explains the untoward length of this story. Paid by the word (rumor has it), in this novel he restates himself as much as possible. This creates eye-rolling whenever a chapter is devoted to those we loathe. However, he does create a glorious world of politics, scandal, and everyday life for a certain class (UNlike Dickens, he does not venture beneath those of rank or trade). And, when he reaches the Lady Glencora Palliser, the novel takes off. Perhaps it was because I had seen the old British miniseries, but I found myself captivated with her. While she and Alice definitely bring to light the mire that women were forced into (at that time-period and of that social class), Trollope definitely doesn't tell the half of it. All-in-all I liked it and might read the next one... When I have the time. By equal turns comic and serious, with some fisticuffs thrown in, an enveloping read. Timothy West does a superb job as narrator. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
