For twenty-three years, Cross Carlson was a playboy. You know the type. Tall, dark, and wealthy. Blue-eyed. Charming. He seemed to have it all so easy. But Cross was harboring a terrible secret - one that helped ruin the life of an innocent girl and almost ended his own. Finally out of the hospital, Cross is flailing, scarred in both body and mind and stifled by the weight of the secret he still keeps. The only way to absolution lies in a Mexican convent, and going there could cost him everything. If there's anyone who knows what it's like to screw up big time, it's Meredith Kinsey. Just a few years ago, Merri was an ordinary girl with a job at her college newspaper and white picket fence kind of dreams. Now she's holed up in a Mexican convent, hiding from a drug lord who thinks he owns her. What happens when the only way out of hell is with the son of the man who put you there? They say love conquers all, but does it really?… (plus d'informations)

-- Want to know if the whole series is worth reading? Read my overall review of the whole series at seriesousbookreviews.com! Spoiler Free!

When I started Taming Cross, it had nearly been 3 years since I read Selling Scarlett. Luckily, I had the key plot points written down so I had a vague idea of what was happening--though it took me a while to orient myself.

The vibe in this story is very different from its predecessor. This definitely was more of an action-suspense novel that didn't hold back on the physical fights and violence. So I found that the story moved fast because the characters themselves were moving fast.

I wish the romance was elaborated on more; especially given the circumstances. It made the ending a little rushed I felt.

As for the writing itself, I found it to be a little choppy at times. It made it hard to follow the sequence of events during the action scenes, and I would reread paragraphs to make sure I was reading everything correctly. But when I returned to those paragraphs, I discovered that it wasn't as clear as it should be or was missing that one key line. There are some scenes that remain a bit of a mystery to me but I didn't let that dampen my experience too much.

Although this is not the Genre I normally read, I loved every bit of this book. While you do not have to read “Selling Scarlett”, the first book in this series, I would recommend you do so before reading “Taming Cross”, so you have some back story to go on. Shortly after I finished with “Selling Scarlett”, I was fortunate enough to win a copy of “Taming Cross”

This story is not as sexually graphic as the first book, but there are some heavy scenes, as well as violence, and it also addresses issues such as sex slavery that I would not recommend to younger readers.
Cross was my favorite character from “Selling Scarlett”, and I loved getting to read more about him, and how he got to where he is at in life in his own book.

He decides it is time to do the right thing, and head to Mexico to rescue his father’s previous mistress, Merri, from the Cartel. How hard could it be? He has a general idea of where she will be located, and has fake passports on hand to get them safely back to the States.

Merri comes off as a timid, weaker character, but as the story develops, you learn that she is intelligent, smart, and very strong- which is exactly what Cross needs in his life; and may be the one thing that can keep them both alive as they try to head back to safety. They both have secrets of their own, but can they learn to let go of the past in order to survive?

Just when I thought I knew where the book was heading, and thought Cross and Merri were finally in the clear, and finally able to address their sexual desires and emotions, characters from the past show up to throw a monkey-wrench into everything. But Cross did not work this hard, and come this far, just to lose Merri, and his own life like this; and he will not go down without a fight.

If I were ever to be in trouble, the sexy bike riding, not-so-boy-next-door Cross would be the one I want coming to save me. His determination, dedication, and perseverance out-weighs any reckless mistakes from his past.
