Twin brothers ,Bradley and Brian, accompanied by their two friends ,Nate and Lucy, are on a hunt to find the 1st grade class pet that Brian and Bradley agreed to take care of over the summer. It was the last day of summer vacation and the four were all out playing with little, Goldie (class pet hamster) and the twin's dog, Pal (who happened to be Goldie's best-friend). It was dinner time so they put ,Goldi, back in her aquarium that was in the twin's barn for the night. Before they went in, they made sure that she was all ready to be taken back to school, but......the strangest thing happened over night. When the kids went to get Goldie the next day, she was GONE and in her place was a key-chained sneaker that was green with orange lighting bolts- which coincidentally matched the four friends new 2nd grade teacher's shoes. Throughout the book, a series of things that belonged to other people go missing. Mr. Vooray's, tennis racket. Bobby Arnold's, basketball. Zack's, bathing suit and so many more things. Oh, and the 1st graders pet hamster, Goldie. I'm not going to spoil the ending so crack open the book and join in on the mystery to find out for yourselves! When it comes to the relevance of literacy instruction, this book plays a great role in letting readers progress in their reading at their own rate. With little words that they may have trouble understanding to pictures that illustrate the meaning of the words, children can bring better understanding and comprehension to the story by following the story line to determine who the mystery thief, or thieves, is!
