Interesting but commentary on Dieppe misleading based on current studies. ( ) Ferguson's light, slightly sarcastic tone makes this book a perfect primer for Canadian history. I especially liked the way the multiple sociopolitical forces that shaped the country are outlined right from the start and very clearly designed throughout the text. I would have liked a few more pointers to extra reading material, though, as many events are quite rapidly covered. Also, more and better maps would definitely help, especially for readers unfamiliar with Canadian geography. Still reading it, but very, very good. The author does make the terrible mistake of mentioning that Columbus was thinking that the world was round as a way of getting to India faster. I cannot wait for this myth to die out! No one, I repeat, no one, unless you lived in a cave, thought that the world was flat in the 15th century. This myth that Columbus was trying to prove the world was round is an 18th century invention, and it is too bad that it is halfways included in what is an otherwise excellent book. A funny and informative book. Will Ferguson really helps keep the book interesting and put a Canadian citizens perspective on some of the historic events. I realize now how little I really knew about Canadian history and plan to do some more research on some events. I wish more information was give on how to get more information of certain subjects. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
