From the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and BIRDS OF PREY, Katana stars in her very own series! The former assassin and new Justice Leaguer embarks on a noble quest to restore the Outsiders to their former glory! Will she succeed, or will she be overcome by the power of her sword, the Soul Taker? Written by Ann Nocenti (CATWOMAN, GREEN ARROW) with art by Alex Sanchez (STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC), this stirring new graphic novel collects KATANA #1-10 and JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK 23.1 THE CREEPER. You owuld think that I would like her in her own book, and by like I mean love. But I just like her.
If you want a look at Katana's backstory, this is the book for you. But it has little impact on the New 52 and is almost entirely it's own thing.
One of the things I really liked about Katana was that she was always talking to her sword, which she claimed housed the soul of her dead husband. You never really knew if she was actually hearing her dead husband or was just hearing the voices in her own head. Definitively answering this question does nothing for me. So, she really does her husband and many other souls trapped in her sword.
The Creeper is an interesting villain to be the main big bad in this story, especially considering Killer Croc's involvement. As the story went on, I liked the choice more and more. The Creeper as an Oni was an interesting take on him and in my opinion a vast improvement over previous incarnations of the character.
