This book reminded me of [b:Demons in the Spring|2109935|Demons in the Spring|Joe Meno|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348200991s/2109935.jpg|2115340] - the same sparse but affecting prose, universal themes explored through cute (some would say twee) yet melancholy magical realism. This book is about Tom, a regular man who is friends with the superhero crowd. Most of the superpowers are not entirely useful or desirable, but are typically just normal characteristics enhanced or accentuated (Stress Bunny, who absorbs everyone else's worries; Mistress Cleanasyougo, who folds all her laundry, does all her dishes, and always says what is necessary; Mr. Opportunity, who knocks on doors, yet so few answer). Tom's wife is hypnotized (by her ex), and Tom becomes invisible to only her. It's a sort-of absurd, slightly saccharine, tea-coloured story about loneliness and loss and love.
Plus it's set in Toronto which I love. ( )
