It's always hard to know how to rate a classic writer such as Huxley. The writing is solid, many of the mistakes made are the result of things we know now that we did not know then, so I rate him quite high. It's readable and interesting, though I disagree with his main premise that we cannot know enough to actually reject the premise of gods (of course, we know a lot more now than we did then, so perhaps my judgment would have been different had I been reading him at the time). Overall, he makes a lot of good points, and there is much in here to get you thinking. His approach is not dissimilar to more contemporary writers, and he speaks politely but firmly to his opponents, and is not above making the occasional sarcastic reference when it's called for. Definitely worth a read. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
In this selection of his most important writings, renowned scientist and philosopher Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895) discusses his views on the demonstrative evidence of evolution, the physical basis of life, naturalism and supernaturalism, agnosticism and Christianity, and the Christian tradition in relation to Judaic Christianity.
