How did The Simpsons, one of the most popular television shows in history, go from being attacked by many religious leaders for its lack of family values to being called one of the most theologically relevant programs in prime time? Religion journalist Mark Pinsky tackles that question in this accessible, witty, and enlightening book. Pinsky explores the individual characters, interviews several of the show's writers and producers, and concludes with a discussion of whether the show - once cited as further evidence of the decline of civility and morality in the world- is subversive or supportive of faith. Read this book around religious people. It makes them think you're pious and hip! (I know from experience) ( )

A good honest look at how religion is portrayed on The Simpsons (up until their 2001 season). Interesting in its scope about how it portrays primarily Christian beliefs (and written by a Jewish scholar). Not too much substance on religion or to learn anything new about religion, but an interesting new way to take a look at the Simpsons. ( )

A very fun, light summer read. Actually, it had more meat to it than I would have ever guessed. You will not look at the Simpsons the same way again. ( )
